A scene from Flux Clinic: Experiments in Measurement, featuring Discharge Official Jennifer Grimshaw (Maura Foley)

This coming Friday I will be presenting Documentation from the event Flux Clinic: Experiments in Measurement, which took place at The Market Studios in May 2009 as part of thisisnotashop’s Fluxus with Larry Miller series of events & exhibitions.

Flux Clinic was only made possible by the generous & creative voluntary participation by Aidan O’Donovan, Nina Sigurd, Jessamyn Fiore, Maura Foley, Aine Ivers, Francis Fay, Alan James Burns, Seodín O’Sullivan, Talia Moscovitz, Daithí O héighnigh, Patricia McKenna and Kalen Leo. These fine people worked with me to develop individual characters which they performed on the day of the Clinic. The Clinic itself, and the measurements carried out within it, was based loosely on notes given to me by Larry Miller, which he had noted down based upon the original Flux Clinic, by the Hi Red Group, held at the Walfdorf Astoria hotel in NYC in 1966. I also worked very closely with teacher Elaine Gleeson and her first class from the Balbriggan Educate Together Primary School, to create prints based upon a story about a man who discovers alternative methods of measurement. The children responded visually to the tale of ‘Mister Fogpatches & the Soggy Boots’ and their prints adorned the halls of the Flux Clinic on the day of it’s operation, the 9th May 2009.

I hope you will come along to The Market Studios this Friday 24th to see the documentation of this work. Two video pieces and a book about the Flux Clinic event will be on display for the evening at The Market Studios, as part of LIVESTOCK.
